9 crafts for kids: ways to have fun creating

Most of us have probably done some sort of profession at some point, especially during childhood. And it is possible that we remember this moment with some affection, having been an activity different from the usual one and which results in an elaboration made by ourselves.

These elaborations are not only fun: they allow us to make the link with the different elements that we use and with the people with whom we make them, they make us organize and promote creativity and the development of fine motor skills. In short, it is not a bad idea that if we have children in our care, we suggest that they do some kind of crafts every now and then as it involves improving different aspects along with possible entertainment. and communication. This is why in this article we will offer you instructions for performing different crafts for kids.

    Children’s crafts: a selection

Below is a series of nine children’s crafts that can be made with their help in a fun and enjoyable way, both when making them and when tasting the made product. All of them were obtained from different books, web portals and tutorials.

    1. Homemade modeling clay

When we talk about artisanal manufacturing, we usually think of making a specific end product, with a specific function or just decorative. However, the truth is that we can also work on materials that children use for fun. An example is plasticine, this preparation will be used both to make a craft and to awaken and stimulate future experiments at the culinary level.

Simply mix the flour, water, salt, oil and a little food coloring in a mold to give it color. About three cups of flour, one of salt, one of water and two tablespoons of oil would be a good proportion.

Although it is possible to color with tempera paints, we recommend the use of food coloring because with them we can achieve 1 plasticine that would not be toxic if ingested. These will be the proportions that will determine the properties of this plasticine. This plasticine will be quite durable and will allow us to make small crafts next to our children.

      2. The clock

One possible craft that can also be useful when learning the hours and working of a clock is precisely making a wall clock. To do this, it will suffice a plastic plate, a marker, two dozen post-its, two strips of cardboard and a pin.

To start, cut two rectangles of cardboard larger than each other, which will be the future hands of the clock. Nail them to the exact center of the plate (first calculate where it is with a ruler) with a pin. After that, paint each of the hours on a post-it and then place them in order on the plate. If you want to make it more educational, you can put the minutes that would correspond to each of the numbers in the hour (that is to say that one corresponds to five minutes, the two to ten …) and the put before the hour number itself.

      3.Fingerprint taking

A very simple type of craft that can be made extremely original and fun. It is based on the impregnation of the child’s hands or feet (and ours, if we are doing something collaborative) and create some kind of composition on a sheet of paper. Later it is possible to add to the imprint of the hand different incorporations, being able for example to make trees or animals.

      4. Macaroni necklace

Probably one of the most typical and simple professions, but just as entertaining. All we need is a bundle of macaroni, paint, and thread. The child can paint as he wishes each of the macaroni that will be part of the necklace, and you will insert them in a wire. If you want, we can add another type of item. Once finished, a knot must be made to close it.

      5. Paper puppets

Cardboard, glue, tape, scissors, paper, and markers are the materials needed to create a simple version of the paper puppets.

First we will take a piece of paper and fold it in half, then zealously glue it. We will again fold the ends inward, in the middle of the folded sheet. From the center where we go both ends, we fold in the opposite direction. We can now open both ends and reach for it, So that it is possible to open and close the proto-puppet as if it were a mouth.

From now on, all that remains is to give shape to the creature or being you want to build, by gluing colored cardboard and other elements. Thus, we will stick inside the “mouth” cardboard of a specific color (for example pink). We can cut a tongue out of cardboard so we can add it and make the puppet more fun. On the other sides, we can paste cardboard of another and other colors, and even draw elements such as circles, feather marks or warts (It depends on the animal or being we are making).

We will also have to cut out two circles of cardboard that will be the eyes of our creature, which we will decorate to taste. If we make several different puppets, we can even do a mini theatrical performance.

      6. Small notebooks

Another profession which is also distinguished by its ability to have practical use is the development of one or more notebooks. for that we will have enough with leaves and glue, Although we can also use cardboard and markers.

The procedure is relatively simple: it involves taking a sheet of paper and folding it in half, then folding it in half but in the opposite direction. With these lies made and marked, We will unfold the paper and see how we have a total of four folds, which we will cut.

We will fold each of these strips of paper in half and continue to fold in the same direction two more times. We will continue to glue the ends of the strips together, until we form a long round of paper with many duplications. We will close for duplicates until we get an accordion band. We will stick the falsehoods only in one of the directions, already obtaining with it a small notebook. We would only need to cover it.

To do this, we will take a card, which we will fold in half in length and width. We will cut one. In this we will mark the shorter side of the sheet. We will bend without reaching the mark, and we will do the same on the other side. We bend the other way, leaving a little space. This done, we will have the bridge almost finished. Putting the notebook inside, we can fold the ends inward and glue the first and last daughters of the notebook to both sides in it. We already have our notebook, and we can only decorate it to taste.

      7. Cardboard masks

Another very simple craft is making cardboard masks. It will be enough with cardboard, scissors, cardboard, markers, rubber band and a lot of imagination. We can upload a specific type of template to use as a template.

The first will be to measure the approximate size of the head and move that size onto the cardboard. It will be necessary to measure approximately the distance between the eyes of the person who will wear it and use it to generate two holes through which it can be seen.

The next thing to do is shape the card into the desired shape, cut the shape we want (For example, the shape of a dinosaur’s head or a character’s head / helmet). Using cardboard and markers, we will finish decorating it.

Finally, you will also need to make two small holes at the ends of the mask. We will cut a plastic rubber in order to obtain a single strip, And we will tie the ends into these holes.

      8. Author’s T-shirt

This last job that we will offer is also quite simple. The basic and main element is a preferably smooth, one-color t-shirt. From there, we can use different paints such as tempera paints, in order to give it the personality we want. too much we can define a specific theme, Like nature or the beach.

      9. Paper flowers

Making paper flowers is a relatively easy thing to do. for this we will need some type of paper, such as tissue paper or crepe, although we can also use colored cardboard. In this case, we will do some of the roses.

To start we will cut the paper into rectangular strips, and proceed to roll on themselves form a small cone and glue the final piece so that it is fixed. We will do the same with strips of different sizes, inserting cones into others and gluing them.

After that, we can proceed to insert it into a long baguette, which we will later paint in green, and one or more leaves for the flower can also be cut out of green cardboard, which we will glue to the baguettes. If we have a porexpan sphere and we make a lot of roses, we could even nail the roses to it and form a bouquet (which we would wrap with suitable paper for this).
