The terrifying drawings of a murderous 12-year-old girl

When I see in the news that a murder has taken place, I often ask myself: “What led a person to commit this crime?” But when the murder was committed by a child, the news hits me in such a way that I am not able to form an idea of what may have gone on in his head. That a child is not kind and sympathetic and that he is rather dangerous for society is difficult to understand.

Many are psychologists and psychiatrists who for years have been trying to find answers to the reasons of child psychopaths. Children can become very mean and very cruel to other children their age. Now, what motivates them to commit crimes without any remorse?

In most of the cases the life of these killers is generally marked by abuse, mistreatment, unstructured families, Etc. So generally, and at least in part, the behavior of these little killers is a product of their environment, which must be taken into account in order to understand what may have gone through the minds of these child killers. In other cases, mental disorders can also be at the origin of these barbaric acts.

When fiction exceeds reality: murderous children

Sadly, there are some stories that go beyond fiction and which, because of their brutality and terrifying storyline, shake us all. An example is the well-known case which I will explain in today’s article. This is the terrifying case of Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, two friends aged 12 and 13 who lived in Wisconsin (USA) and who one day stabbed a friend of theirs in order to impress a fictional character created in a Internet forum thread and featured in a multitude of works of fiction circulating the net: The Slender Man.

The events took place on May 31, 2014 and although the case had an immediate impact, as the details of what had happened became known the story became more surprising. The girls had planned the crime days earlier and had a map of the Waukesha, Wisconsin forest where they took their 12-year-old friend to stab her 19 times.

The victim, Payton Leutner, was found by a cyclist on Saturday and taken to hospital, where they surprisingly managed to save his life. In fact, he recovered after a few months and is already leading a normal life.

The reasons for the assassination attempt

When asked by authorities in Wisconsin about the motives for the assassination attempt, Morgan and Anissa replied that the murder of their friend was the first step in becoming the (by proxy) representatives of Slender Man. This character was the leader of the creepypasta .com website and he demanded sacrifices as a show of loyalty.

Morgan Geyser was responsible for the two friends, and they had been planning the crime for a month before it happened. His intelligence was superior to his age, but what really catches his attention is his personality: introverted and psychotic.

They planned the assassination on several occasions

Morgan and Anissa not only planned the murder in the woods in advance, but they planned to kill their friend twice.

The first plan was to kill Payton by slitting his throat while he was sleeping. They changed the plan out of indecision. Then they thought about murdering him in a public bathroom, but they changed their minds because they thought the blood might be a problem, and besides, someone could hear Payton’s screams. It was too risky! Eventually, he decides to take her to the forest and stab her to death.

The two minors do not yet know their sentence, but the court has tried them as adults. The defense alleges that the girls had altered mental faculties so that they would not own their actions.

Morgan’s mental health issues

The defense claims Morgan is mentally disturbed and appears to be suffering from schizophrenia and hallucinations. In other words, that is to say the assassination attempt was a consequence of his mental problems, Since he saw the Slender Man, or at least thought he was watching him. The role of her friend is not entirely clear yet, although some experts like American psychiatrist Laura Davies (in an article in the Chicago Tribune) speak of a case of Madness for Two (shared disorder).

Police found a series of drawings in De Morgan and they were used as evidence by the defense. You can see them below:
