Tips to get you into a state of flux
The Flow State is related to well-being and happiness because they are enjoyable activities that make us feel special and happy in our lives.
Following contributions from Mihaly CsikszentmihalyiHere are some tips to be able to flow and achieve the optimal state in which your task will become something very rewarding.
1. Do something that you find interesting
The state of the flow appears naturally when it exists intrinsic motivation or you are curious about what activity you are doing. To increase productivity and creativity in what you do, you have to enjoy what you are doing.
2. Set clear and achievable goals
The goals you set for yourself in the activity should be specific and achievable. If you meet the objectives of this activity in line with your skill level, You may be able to circulate during the performance. Conversely, if the goals you set for yourself present a level of difficulty that will require you to overwork, it can be stressful.
It should be understood that if the task you are going to perform does not represent any degree of difficulty, it is very possible that you will be bored. The key is that there is an appropriate level between the motivation for the task and the ability to complete it.
3. Find a quiet time and avoid distractions.
For many people, a quiet location is better for inducing a state of flux. This way, it is easier that there are no distractions and you can enjoy the moment to its fullest. Continuous interruptions do not favor the presence of the state of fluidity. If you want to be more productive, you can identify the time of day you play the most. Some people work best in the morning, others in the afternoon, and still others at night.
4. Keep your attention as long as you can
Once you’ve found that moment of calm without distractions, try to keep your attention on the task. Sometimes, especially if you are doing an activity for the first time, it is normal that you are not very focused for a long time. As you master the activity, you will have more time to enjoy it. On the other hand, you need to pay attention to physiological needs (like eating, going to the bathroom, drinking, etc.) as they interfere with your level of attention. Therefore, it is important to cover these needs to promote the state of flux.
5. Your skill level should match the difficulty of the task.
If our skill level is in line with the activity we are doing, we will be more satisfied with it. In other words, if we are well prepared to do something, it is more likely to experience the state of flux. But adding a little difficulty to the task can keep our motivation high. The problem arises when the task is important to us, then it ceases to be pleasant.
6. Focus on the process, not the outcome
The state of the flow it is linked to the accomplishment of the task, not to the result. An attractive result can also be motivating, but the most important thing is to enjoy what you do. Flow State refers to having fun in the present, that is, losing in this moment of happiness.
